Emily Bludworth de Barrios

“Sure thou art not a mortal, but my guardian angel. On my
knees let me thank”—

As when a kitten chooses to make for its bed
your warm torso
and you feel very chosen.

It is hoped that
I am and continue to be a worthy participant.

To be loveable isn’t to be good
but to be consistently going for it.

I.e. to habitually make one’s life.

The title of this poem comes from The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole. It was published in 1764.
