APOLOGY

My wilderness is looking for
a lesson. My tongue is looking
to get cut out. I remember
one time in a valley & being
a kid in a green dress turning.
But that was a long time ago.
I’m not saying you were there.
If you’re looking for a bargain,
I’m a bargain. I can make
my eyes much smaller if
they trouble you. I can sing
or not sing. Under your bed
forever is a place for me.
Stuck to your door like dead
leaves is another. I’d like to
remind you I come already
assembled. I’d like to remind
you of cold water & stars
in the valley, big trees dripping
sap on your hands– but it
doesn’t have to be like that
or anything. Just take me
home. I’ll never lie again.
